Fever could heal cancer why not UC...

Believe it or not - induced fever was used to treat IBD from the 1930's to 1950's by the guy that Crohn's Disease is named after "Burrill Crohn".

It has roughly a 40-50% success rate, but at the time as improved surgery came around with the introduction of antibiotics and improved procedures they began this route of treatment believing it was curative... what they didn't know back then was that in Crohn's disease recurrence rates were very high.

Induced fever sort of dropped off the map after surgery became the prime line of treatment. No one has picked it up since.

40-50% is pretty substantial. I have a recent post on this one here somewhere.

Fecal Transplants were used back then as well... actually FT traces back all the way to the mid 1800's.

Would you create a one time therapy with no return investment in the long run? If I wanted to keep the profits rolling, I'd no doubt be creating drugs that people take for the rest of their lives.

It's akin what they are doing with anti-depressants, which is just rebranding old ones as new. Deceiving, but keeps that CEO's family fed, and rather well at that.

And I would never subject myself to chemo. It's the "cure" that kills.

I should have typed that clearer. From memory, Burrill Crohn originally treated IBD with purposely induced fever. His records stated that he achieved around a 40-50% success rate or "curative" rate with the disease. I'm pretty sure this the rate I recall reading. So it was quite high.

Then came antibiotics and surgery, where he then felt this method (sugary) produced a far better "100%" cure rate, so he, along with other doctors in the field favoured this new "surgical curative" method. What they didn't know at the time and I assume eventually learned was that the recurrence rate after surgery (in Crohn's at least) is actually quite high - so it turned out in the long run be non-curative and perhaps even a lower success rate than induced fever. This was also the time (late 1950's) when the structure of DNA was solved and generally the medical field was forever changed haha... So not many people picked up where they left off with the fever thing.

Keep in mind medical records might not be all that accurate back then, who knows. But still..

There's a thread on here about vaccination perhaps... They inoculated people with various intestinal derived bacteria to induce a fever and this brought about relief of symptoms. I do recall reading in the same paper where a US doctor tried this and was unsuccessful or could not duplicate Burrill Crohn's results.

If memory serves one treatment method was very much like a vaccine and the other method was very much like IVIG therapy in a way.

I can't find the thread either at the moment. But I'll keep looking cause the papers are on there. It was kind of interesting. Funny to in a way where we now have a return to Fecal Transplant which was used in the 1930's and 40's and we also have this SSRI treatment or ummm Qu Biologics or whatever it's called going on in Canada which is very much like what they were doing with the vaccines back in the 40's and early 50's
