I saw yr post regarding the persons who has a sis with UC. You stated you were worried for your unborn child....I was too. My family doc referred me to Mt Sinai hospital...they do genetic testing for high risk patients like us...almost like a prescreening. It took a while to get the appointment but it was well worth it. I was also able to ask about using IVIG during pregnancy/breast feeding etc

Really?? Wow, that would be awesome. I've been to Mt. Sinai, never got genetic testing though. Which doctor did you see for it??


I think UC is lower. CD is higher. But I'm not sure if they're close to 20%. I think 13% or lower? Correct me if I'm wrong!

Hi Sibby , it wasn't a doctor but a clinic..,this was 3 years ago....I forget the name ...will do a google & get back to you. Well worth it in making a decision to procreate or not:)

As far as I know there is no family history. I strongly believe I developed UC because of my years of antibiotic abuse. I had tonsillitis when I was young and the only treatment for it was antibiotics.

I would first be put on it, go through 10 days, then a few days later I'd have to be put back on something else again. It was like that for a year and a half, until surgery. I continued to get sick over the years. I was put on one right before I started having symptoms of UC.

Like Guardian said, unless my children go through the same thing as me (I'll fight dirty just to prevent something like this), I think their likelihood is small. But it's good to know just in case.
