So I just got my hands on my Dr. Report from my colonoscopy..When I left that day I was told I have Proctitis but after seeing this report I'm confused. I know you all are most likely not Doctors but DO have more knowledge about this then I. Can anyone shed some light?
DATE OF PROCEDURE: 06/05/2014
PROCEDURE: Colonoscopy with biopsy.
PREOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Hematochezia.
POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Nonspecific proctocolitis.
ANESTHESIA: Atropine 0.4 mg, fentanyl 100 mcg, Versed 10 mg, Brevital 40
mg intravenously.
TOTAL ANESTHESIA ADMINISTRATION TIME: 8 minutes.
DEscriptION OF PROCEDURE: The patient was brought to the endoscopy suite
and placed in the lateral recumbent position. After all her questions
concerning the risks and benefits of the procedure were answered and
alternate diagnostic evaluations were explained to her satisfaction, she
was deemed an appropriate candidate for moderate sedation. The instrument
was introduced into the rectum without difficulty. Preoperative rectal
examination revealed no evidence of abnormality.
TERMINAL ILEUM: The terminal ileum was entered for approximately 20 cm and
appeared normal. Photodocumentation was obtained.
CECUM: In the periappendicular area, there was 2+ friability, 2+ erythema,
some very tiny superficial erosions. Photodocumentation was obtained. No
evidence of purulence was identified. Multiple random biopsies were
obtained and labeled Jar A. The ileocecal valve appeared normal.
ASCENDING COLON: Appeared normal. Random biopsies were obtained and
labeled Jar B.
TRANSVERSE COLON: Appeared normal, random biopsies were obtained and
labeled Jar B.
DESCENDING COLON: Appeared normal. Random biopsies were obtained and
labeled Jar C.
SIGMOID COLON: Tortuous. Random biopsies were obtained and labeled Jar C.
RECTUM: Extending from the anus, approximately 6 cm into the rectum, 2+
friability, 2+ erythema and tiny superficial erosions were identified.
Photodocumentation was obtained. Multiple random biopsies were obtained
and labeled Jar D. Stool was aspirated for ova and parasites.
The patient tolerated the procedure well and was transferred with stable
vital signs to the recovery area.
RECOMMENDATIONS: An inflammatory bowel disease diagnostic panel will be
obtained. I will initiate a medical trial with Lialda 1.25 g daily.
Thank you for allowing me to participate in this pleasant patient's care.
