Very inspiring story

Find it depressing rather than inspiring.

The only message I derive from it is that you have to be almost anorexically thin to bare your body with an ostomy bag. Nobody, but nobody, would praise me for showing my bag on the beach. And I wouldn't do it, 'cos I once was as thin as that girl but now I'm overweight and flabby and nobody would want to see my body or my bag.

I love this story and find it so inspiring. I was at the water park for two days last weekend and while I didn't wear a bikini, I did wear a tankini and a one piece the second day. There were people there with bodies of ALL shapes and sizes and I guarantee you, no one was looking at my ostomy! It was an amazing weekend and for the first time, my first thought wasn't my ostomy, it was chasing the kids up and down the water slides!

I applaud this girl and hope more of us can embrace our bodies, ostomy or not, overweight or underweight, and be thankful for what an awesome opportunity to enjoy life we have been given, even if our guts don't want us to.

There was an article in Huffington Post on Facebook the other day. It was a diagram called "How to get a bikini body" and the diagram goes on to show women of all body types and shapes with the caption "Find a bikini and put it on your body, and voila, you have a bikini body!" Love it!

True i was more squeamish of her tattoes as well! I did't find her ostomy to be an aesthetic issue at all.

Whats inspiring to me about this story is all the support she received online and off, not her physical attributes that some of you are focusing on.

Have to agree with NCOT I'm afraid. There are loads of brave amazing people like this girl who show their ostomy bags, but it's like it's only 'inspirational' and gets coverage if the person is otherwise beautiful.

Exactly my point. Anyone who's old, fat or otherwise perceived as physically unattractive is more likely to get torn apart on the internet than to receive fake Fakebook praise for their "courage". (No, courage is physically risking your life, particularly in order to save somebody else.)

True NCOT i have to agree with your latter comment. That i definitely don't think she would have gotten as much positive feedback if she was fat or ugly.
But then humans are aesthetic beings. We appreciate beauty and find it attractive.
But thats only one side to this story. The other side is that this girl conquered her fears and went to pursue her dream of becoming a model despite this (rather significant in this line of work) obstacle being the bag.

i don't know much about it so I could be wrong. I think the smaller one is for discharge and doesn't actually have any stool come through it.
