Well, prednisone is a whole different ballgame. To technically answer your question though, both prednisone and Uceris would be more effective if taken every day, forever. But, no one in their right mind would recommend taking them every day, forever due to the damage they would do to your body. However, Uceris is mainly always prescribed every day for two months and then stopped. I'm not really sure why that is since it isn't anywhere near as systemic as prednisone. It doesn't make sense to me that the much worse systemic steroid (prednisone) is often prescribed for months and sometimes even years, when the much less worse topical mostly nonsystemic steroid (Uceris) is stopped after two months. I really don't undestand why you couldn't take Uceris as maintenance a couple times of week, for very long periods, maybe even forever. It would be kind of like doing a steroid enema or suppository a couple times a week, just enough to hopefully keep UC in check, hopefully without doing damage to your body.
