How many are on Uceris and a maintaance drug like Lialda?

Just wondering if people are on the combo

notso, I wonder if you could talk your doctor into using Uceris like two times a week as part of your maintenance therapy? If people can be prescribed prednisone for months and even years I don't see why a patient couldn't do this.

Well, prednisone is a whole different ballgame. To technically answer your question though, both prednisone and Uceris would be more effective if taken every day, forever. But, no one in their right mind would recommend taking them every day, forever due to the damage they would do to your body. However, Uceris is mainly always prescribed every day for two months and then stopped. I'm not really sure why that is since it isn't anywhere near as systemic as prednisone. It doesn't make sense to me that the much worse systemic steroid (prednisone) is often prescribed for months and sometimes even years, when the much less worse topical mostly nonsystemic steroid (Uceris) is stopped after two months. I really don't undestand why you couldn't take Uceris as maintenance a couple times of week, for very long periods, maybe even forever. It would be kind of like doing a steroid enema or suppository a couple times a week, just enough to hopefully keep UC in check, hopefully without doing damage to your body.

Uceris really only helps with mild flares, so your current condition may be more aggravated than Uceris can quell. I had to take pred to get my flare down enough so that the Uceris could keep it down. And my first attempt with Uceris, I had gotten off the pred too quickly and the Uceris couldn't hold it. Then I had to go back on the pred, this time for a more typical course starting at 40 and working down, then back onto the Uceris. It worked that time.
I think many GI's are starting to prescribe Uceris for longer periods than the 8 weeks most were initially prescribing it for. I asked my GI about that and he said 8 weeks was the length of the trial and that is where 8 week dosing came from. Now that GI's have more experience with it, they are prescribing it for longer terms. A work in progress.
