Skin Ulcers - polyderma gangrenosum

Has anyone experienced skin ulcers - polyderma gangrenosum - from having UC, a stoma or from remicade or 6mp?  If so, how are you treating them?  If you got one, did you get more? 

I have this sore that looks like an ulcer on my abdomen and it will not heal after two to three months.  Looks like pictures of subject.  Have not discussed with doc yet.  Wanted to hear if anyone else has had this problem first.

I haven't had it. You should discuss this with your doctor asap. Hope you get better soon.

My dad had that...on his feet...he did not have UC. I'd get some treatment going asap to prevent it from getting worse. From what I know of it...it will likely spread (like UC) if untreated. I'm sure there are exceptions to that but why wait and see?

Andrina and Amy Thanks for the replies. I will discuss it with my new GI doc in August, as I have read that it could be yet another manifestation of UC or possibly LUPUS (which I am concerned about due to the severe muscle and joint pain and weakness). Funny thing is, if it is due to UC, they treat it with the usual UC drugs such as remicade.

This disease and its treatments surely are mysterious.

I have had peirstomal pyoderma gangrenosum - aka pyoderma around my stoma. It's characterized by blue/purple/blackish tinge around the edge. It hurts. If it doesn't hurt, you probably have another type of ulcer.

For my treatment, they would inject it directly with steroids and lidocaine. Lidocaine for pain killing and steroids to stop the immune disfunction. It needed inject every two weeks. I've also heard of people using steroid creams.

You are right about the systemic treatments - they are the same as UC (Humira, Remicade, steroids). Go get it looked at ASAP. It does tend to get bigger.

Activeucer Thanks for the reply.  Sorry to hear you are having such a problem.  The ulcer does not usually hurt and is not purplish.  I oozes and looks almost yellowish at times.  Sometimes it bleeds.  It does not seem to be getting any bigger, but I think there may be another one starting on my chest area (it is only tiny now).  Since getting UC and taking meds, all cuts or bruises take forever (usually months) to heal.
