Hi everyone,
This isn't a thread for a new drug coming out or any new promising research or anything, just a general question for those who follow UC research and know of its history.
Human Tropomyosin 5 is a colonic cell protein that has been thought to be a possible autoantigen that our bodies are attacking in ulcerative colitis.
It seems that its role in causing the disease is still unclear and disputed. Apparently it's unknown if it is the initial cause of the disease, or if the attacks on hTM5 are the result of the protein being released after colon cells are destroyed.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropomyosin#AllergiesBut I can't find any research that is really uncertain about
hTM5...like there are many places that mention they are uncertain if it causes the disease, but I can't find any of these studies. Many of the studies I'm finding are from around a decade ago that seem to support the idea that hTM5 is involved in pathogenesis, but no studies where they've actually seemed to fully test this hypothesis or any studies that do not support the idea of its involvement in the genesis of UC.
It seems like research in general has stopped looking in that direction. Does anyone know why? Is anyone aware of any studies that don't support the role of hTM5 generating disease?
