Ulcers in Small Intestine

Hi
I just had a small bowel capsule endoscopy done and it came back showing multiple (I think 10-15) ulcer's varying in size.
Is this common? My doc says its the beginning of IBD - he made this conclusion from results of blood work for IBD and also a recent colonoscopy which came back negative for IBD.
He has prescribed Apriso for 120 days. Is this treatment protocol standard?
Should I be worried about the Ulcer's developing into something bigger-tumor?

Well, if it is IBD then it is Crohns. Not sure if Apriso is the recommended drug of choice for Crohns or not. IBD can be very unpredictable so the answers to all of your questions are basically yes and no. Your doc proabably wants to see what happens in 120 days but basically IBD treatments are for life, even if the treatments are effective. The disease cannot be cured so you want to do your best to keep it under control at all times and that usually means taking drugs even while in remission. If you get better and quit taking the meds it will often come back worse than before, which you really don't want. Try not jumping to conclusions before you know the truth. The internet can be both a good and a bad thing.

depends where in the small intestine the ulcers are. If your whole colon is inflamed (pancolitis) it can "backwash" into your small intestine near the colon and still be UC.

If you don't have ulcers throughout your entire colon but have ulcers in your small intestine then it is probably CD.
