Potato Starch powder during a flare

Is it OK taking potato starch powder when flaring?

I'll be starting a course of rectal meds tonight to try and nip it in the good and stop the bleeding but could continuing with the potato starch make things worse at all?

A bad idea.

During the flare, many bugs are reduced in number, e.g. B. longum, one of the bugs that guards the gut and present mainly in healthy guts. Potato starch will increase the numbers of B. animalis, which will reduce B. longum even further.

This is just tip of what we know.

I would instead supplement L-Glutamine, DGL and probiotics.

I am really not worried about minor dysbiosis, probably that happens after almost every meal you eat or don't eat. Flare is an indication that it is more than minor dysbiosis. In that scenario, instead of caring for minor changes in gut microbiota, I would rather looks at the whole picture. I don't have proof to support my idea at this moment, as my next uBiome scan is in process. Once those results are in, I 'may' have little more understanding on change in gut flora from peak to the flare to little better state and then to remission state.

Plus, there are individual variations that we know very little about. So unless you experiment yourself with various kinds, like Grapeseed extract from Gary, Oregano oil from Mark, Neem from me, plus addition of different blends of resistant starch, you will have a very little idea on how it affect you personally. Hence, I would take all comments with a grain of salt, as probably those are individualistic comments/observation, may not necessarily apply to the individual in question.

Would using together with probiotics reduce the risk of bad bacteria outweighing the good

I prefer unsweetened apple pectin to potato starch when my flares are bad.

Helps the lining and feeds good bacteria.
