I have found that diet with meds is very effective in controlling UC: When flaring I don't eat much other than HOMEMADE vegetable/ chicken soup... not processed you will do more damage than good and homemade banana pudding: Almond or cashew milk (blend 3/4 cup of almonds or cashews with cup of water) banana's both blended and slice into the mixture, vanilla flavoring and oat meal flour (just blend up oat meal) chill and boom banana pudding.
After I get off the bleeding I start doing easy to digest natural food (avocados, apple sauce, beans [gas doesn't affect me] cooked vegetables, eggs, peanut/almond butter, stuff like that) . I try to stay away from eating alota starches rice/potatoes but thats just a preference for me, they seem to upset me unless i'm 100% remission.
I also stay away from anything processed that has more than 5 ingredients and even then no gluten, no dairy, no red meat, no sugar, no caffeine, no concentrated fruit juices, and trying to stop the corn (mostly cause of the GMO Raid- infested corn, if its organic I think it would be okay but even that term can be used loosely) Just introduce food slowly, keep a food diary, and find out what your body dislikes... most importantly for me... keep the head up high, focus on God to help you thru this tough disease, and stay stress free, stress is a huge factor for bringing on a flare for me.
As far as supplements, I do black strap molasses when bleeding alot for the iron/calcium/potassium, gonna start to do resistant potato starch, a good probiotic and L-gluatmine with slippery elm.
Good luck and God bless!
