Looking back I noticed my colitis started about the same time I was exposed to spermicide. I was wondering, is there anyone else who has an IBD that also had exposure to a spermicide about the same time?

My colitis started in 1983 when I was in collage.

I think that correlating IBD with spermicide is pretty far fetched as far as a theory goes. That is no disrespect to you, I just doubt it. You developed UC as a young adult, the same as A LOT of us here. I was 18 years old when it happened to me, and had not had any exposure to spermicide then.

I will give it a possible, for someone perhaps predisposed, might be another trigger.

Contains nonoxynol-9 = triton x-100, which is an industrial non ionic surfactant, might be found in laundry,or dishwashing detergent also.

Causes vulvovovaginal epithelial disruption.

If absorbed into the colon,might cause mucus thinning, and or some form of barrier disruption.

I have a thread somewhere on mucus thinning by surfactants,from toothpaste,food,residues on dishes.
