With this flare I have something new! Is it proctitis? I thing I remember reading this symptom here before , it started with a P. Anyway.... Like you have to go and nothing come out but the urge is quite painful. I had to leave work today. Is there anything to take? Do I need fiber? I know one of you good people have some good advise! This is really bad! 😔😔😔😔. Thank you!

Thanks Soy, i just cut up a bunch of fruit and will drink some water. Thank god i am off tomorrow. This hurts!

It's called tenesmus. Are you on rectals? If not, get on some. Fresh fruit is not going to do anything for this symptom.

The technical term is tenesmus and it's definitely a pain the the butt! Is this the start of a flare? Enemas and suppositories should help ease some of the inflammation. Proctitis is inflammation of the rectum and it's this inflammation that makes you feel like you need to go...

Yes DM it is tenesmus. It is an extreme urge to have a bowel movement. I am in a flare now. There may not even be any stools but just blood & mucous. Is this also what you are experiencing?
I am currently on Entyvio for my Crohns Colitis. Also I have been using Cortenemas and Cortifoam. These meds help the inflammation if is limited to the rectal area. If you have proctitis, these may help your symptoms.

Thats whats happening twin. The enemas i have have been in my closet over the summer so i think the heat may have ruined them. I got a new prresc. Today. Does anyone know if heat will ruin them?

I would say check with your pharmacist. Or else it is said when in doubt...throw it out!!

Oh you're so lucky you've never had that before. I thought everyone here had experienced tenesmus. I always have it. it's the pitts for sure.

I think i have experienced it a little, but not so extreme! This came on and stuck with me all day! It seems to have calmed down some. Going to pic up some suppositories fr dr tomorrow. He called and confirmed my "colitis is back" I said "um I know"! 🙀

My pres comes in the mail so i cant wait for that del. how long can tenunus last?

Omg this is gonna make me pass out! I took some organic Apple cider vinager and a heating pad on tummy! It's all I can think of to do! The heating pad seems to help. We are so lucky right? Sh*******t

You need rectal meds to treat proctitis, and the longer you wait to get on them, the worse the proctitis will get and likely the longer it will take to treat.

I am on cort enema. It's not as bad but it is still here, since last Thursday and its Sunday. Had a little poop and some with no blood at one point but mostly just urge through out the day with little pieces of me laying in the bottom of the pot.
This really sucks!!!! I hope that it goes away soon. I may ask for cortiFOAM next. Dr pretty good about letting me try stuff.

I honestly think he caused this by prodding me because it iis so centered around rectum!

Today I was hoping to wake up with less tenamus but that was not the case.

I have been doing the cortenema twice a day since Friday and it has brought me a couple of brown poops but with serious tenamus.

When no poop there is alittle pieces of blood and guts, not much.

Today dr wants to examine rectum. I am scared as I feel it will makes things worse and how can u see tenamus anyway!?!?

So I need to use empty bottles to give myself warm water enemas before I go. Joy

I just wonder if he is on the right track, what might he see, can he make me worse?

I am scared because I am really not well, and this is so different. If it wasn't for the tenMus I would feel like this flare is getting under control.

Help!!!!! Please 😰

Is he doing a flex sig? They can see the extent of the inflammation and the location and that helps to see whether you should be using suppositories or enemas or a combo... I doubt it will make things worse but the procedure itself isn't fun. Have you tried suppositories? Maybe the inflammation is right at the end. What you describe does sound normal as far as UC symptoms go :(

Hello and thank you for your response. Not sure what the process called, he just wants too look at rectum. He wants me to do enema before I go but don't really have the supplies so he will have to do that too to get a better look. I am so not looking forward to this NSSG,,, but who would right?

He did mention Canasa and I was going to ask about cortifoam as well.

I just need to get back to work!

Such a huge bummer we all deal with but thankfully we have each other. I feel so isolated as I just live alone with my 15 yr old and I try not to burden or worry her.

Being a teen can be worse than IBD! 😱

Hi....i'm not on here as often..sorry for not replying.

actually, tenesmus can be seen. I had my GI confirm it last month because in the past he called "my clincher symptom of flaring" probably IBS. Grrrrrrr. I had mild inflammation, so it is what I know it is.....
VINDICATED.

What enemas did you have in your closet?

If you're able too use mesalamine..use the enemas in 4g dosage. You could ask for suppositories in either steroid or mesalamine.

Ask for an antispasmodic...I use dicyclomine (bentyl/bentylol). You could start with 10mg maybe 4x daily. It helps.

Are you on probiotics?

Yes still using VSL! Love it!

hang tough...butt spasming is the absolute worst. During bms I call them white-knucklers. Clenching fists, Whimpering, squealing, heavy panting, tears, rhythmic butt puking felt from the base of my neck, etc isn't fun. Amazing the relief after a teeny stool that felt like a watermelon passes....but wait....here comes the next one arrrrrrrghhhhh !!!!

Let us know how your scope goes. It won't make your flare worse, and it will be good to confirm what's going on.

That was not good! It was really awful and my sigmoid and rectum are completely look like hamburger. I am sitting on floor in a corridor waiting for lab to open to do rhe test for 6mp, i guess its a genetic test you need to take. In the meantime he upped Apriso to 8 a day 4 in morn 4 at night. He gave me canasasa suppositories And told me to insert 2 is i can. Keep taking hydrocort. And he added a prescrip for Uceris as well. I feel really overwhelmed right now.

I bought marrow bones to make soup, i dont want to eat right now. I hate food. Stupid I know. I feel like a five year old that has been let down again. This disease is a work in progress and so isour individual way of emotionally dealing.
