it is a little less effective than Remicade, but over time it may prove better. lots of people form antibodies to remicade and it stops working.

You can use the search feature on this website and type in colitis humira and you will get enough hits to read until you are in the nursing home. Have you tried other meds than steroids? You may want to read the resources thread at the top of the page for more ideas than just Remicade and Humira.

Remicade worked really well for me for almost 5 years, after it stopped working I then tried humira without any success, I tried different doses and frequencies but no luck.
It depends how sick you are, when I was steroid refractory and in the hospital I was given Cyclosporine and 6-mp.
If you are really sick there is also surgery, I recently had surgery and I am happy with it. I only wish that I had surgery earlier and hadn't waited 8 years suffering with severe UC.

Remicade worked great for me until I had an allergic reaction to it about
8 months in or so. I'm currently on Humira which really only worked well for about
a month. I switched to a double dose (shot every week) about
a month ago and it's still not working well so I am going to have to find something else soon. Humira is more convenient, I'll give it that.

Remicade. Better chance of success to start. The doses are adjustable and it works more quickly. Then Entyvio if we are voting, lol.

Hi Rharmon. I have had huge success with Humira. Back in 2007 I was in a horrendous flare...so sick..in hospital IV antibiotics, steroids etc. & was NPO ( nothing by mouth- no eating or drinking ) for a week. The only next thing they could offer me at that time was Humira. Humira was just approved for Crohns/colitis just prior to my flare. Lucky Me!!! I was scared to bite the bullet & take a new drug...But I did! IT turned around my disease & gave me my life back. With any drug there are going to be success stories and also stories of failure. Everybody is different. One must not be deterred by extraneous details. Stay focused...but informed.
Humira had positive effects on my diseases even after the initial induction doses. It kept me symptom free for 7 years. I was very happy. Unfortunately it recently stopped working & I am on Entyvio & 6MP now.
I wish you well on your journey to feeling better & hope you find the right treatment plan for yourself.

I think considering how long I've been sick with my IBD and the fact that it was untreated basically with RX meds for so many years (over 2 decades) the Humira worked pretty good and likely quickly for me (I just have to deal with my irritable bowel issues somehow) but even my RV fistula felt like it was better shortly after starting Humira.
When my GI asked me to decide between Humira or Remicade, he said they both work the same way and that the only difference was the protein used in each of them (Humira with human and Remi with mouse) so because it's impossible for anyone to personally know which would work faster/better considering everything else you'd have to factor in, I'd say you could never know which one might have worked faster or better the first time you used either one...
If remi didn't work for someone in a specific amount of time, there's no saying that Humira would have necessarily worked better for them in the same specific amount of time...cuz everyone responds to meds differently and those 2 biologics are considered the same med. My GI noted that's why it didn't matter which one I chose from the start.
