Hi all. I'm relatively new and have made a few posts. I'm so glad this forum exists. I've been treated for proctitis over the last few weeks and for the first time ever in the hx of my UC, I'm having trouble pooping! I don't feel constipated or uncomfortable until I try to poop. Is this normal for proctitis? This isn't how I normally present. When I flare, it's cramping and multiple trips to the bathroom day and night. I'm now doing canasa morning and night and tomorrow will finish a medrol pack.

Sounds just like proctitis, tenesmus to be exact. Bummer, me too!

Yeah tenesmus is horrible, important thing is not to strain and force it too much.

Rectal meds can aid with tenesmus but it can take time...the worse off your tenesmus is, generally the longer it will take rectal meds to work...I've only had success with cortifoam myself.

Have you tried a stool softener?

No, I haven't tried stool softener. My new doc wants to do a colonoscopy to make sure nothing is being missed and mentioned an antispasmodic, which I've never used. Will the antispasmodic help?

I guess it depends on what's going on. I've never taken an antispasmodic because I'm pretty sure it will slow my colon down even more.
