Hi I was wondering how the syptoms of crohns would differ from colitis?
what symptoms do you get with crohns but not colitis?

I don't think the symptoms you experience have to be different. Crohn's and UC are both diagnosed based on biopsies and by looking at the inflammation. I know with UC, it's usually continuous. With Crohn's, it can be patchy. UC only effects the large intestine whereas Crohn's can be anywhere from mouth to anus. www.ccfa.org/what-are-crohns-and-colitis/

Bleeding is more common in UC than Crohn's. Vomitting is more common in Crohn's than UC. In Crohn's you're likely to get more mouth ulcers. I'm sure there are more differences...

Most people with Crohn's have some inflammation in the terminal ileum (80%). The terminal ileum is where a lot of nutritional absorption occurs. People with inflammation in the TI often have poor nutritional uptake, so people with Crohn's can be low in essential vitamins and minerals, like iron.

This does not happen with UC. You can certainly be anemic with UC due to bleeding, but you can be anemic with Crohn's with no bleeding whatsoever.

The symptoms can be quite similar, especially if one has Crohn's and has inflammation in the colon.

Terminal ileum inflammation can happen with UC, though, too, especially if one has pancolitis. I had some TI inflammation when I was diagnosed, and my GI was confident that it was backwash ileitis.
