prednisone tapering

So I started my prednisone taper was on 40 mg. for 10 days and now I am to on 35 mg. for 5 days, 30 for 5 days and so on until 5 mg. for 5 days then off. My symptoms were before i started - blood, I am not saying there was a lot of blood but everyday blood although no diarrhea, formed stool but blood tissue also.
I had not blood for two days now but this morning I saw a little blood with stool, is this common? I am only going 2 times a day, but never really went more than 3 in the morning anyway. I think I was a little constipated before prednisone with thin like stools, not pencil thin but thinner than normal. That is back to normal though. Do you think maybe its remnants of the blood that was in there anyway. I have been using the mesalamine enemas nightly and have been retaining them, the urgency is gone but like I say the little bit of blood concerns me now that I am starting to taper. I am also on 9 balsalazide a day. Any thoughts appreciated.

if you are seeing more blood as you taper, something is not right with your colon -

I am on a pred taper and I was tapering similarly to you until I got to 20mg when I started getting the colon pain back and then slowly but surely once I got to 15mg, I started having the looser, mushy stool again. My stools were perfect on the higher pred doses. No blood or mucus in stools though.


I am back on 25mg against the advice of my GI nurse but as far as I am concerned I know my body better than her. So I am staying on 25mg until the pain stops and the stools go back to being firmer and then I will decrease by 0.5. I would say go back up to the dose where you were doing ok and stay there and taper slower. Our colons need to heal.
