Hey all

So I've been on Imuran (the generic) for a long time now. I take 150mg a day. My liver has always been fine (except when I get sick, then my levels slightly elevate). So last month they were slightly elevated (liver function and trans a? not sure) were around 39 which is a little high. So this past Friday they asked me to do my bloodwork again, and this time both those numbers were about 100! Kind of freaky... they asked if I started new meds or was taking a lot of Tylenol.. no to both. I'm getting checked again on the 29th but has anyone dealt with this? The nurse said I could've been dehydrated but idk. Thoughts?

I'm not jaundiced or anything like that - the nurse asked. And said to keep taking the 150.

Yes. Not quite sure what level but I was rushed into hospital for monitoring. Stayed there 5 days with an inflamed liver. Then went home none the wiser as to what had happened. I stopped imuran when it happened and have been too scared to try it again.

The trouble is, livers get inflamed for all kinds of reasons and normal people never realise it has happened because they aren't monitored. Mine might have been nothing to do with the imuran, but I'll never know.

When the same thing happened to me, I was told that I was dehydrated, and that often gives false readings for liver function tests.

Take some milk thistle. It works.

ElephantPipe, how do you feel? When my liver enzymes were climbing, I felt worse every day. It felt different than the normal colitis systemic effects.

My max #s:
ALP - 257
GGT - 558
AST - 165
ALT - 272

With those, I was pretty much non-functional.

Whoops, sorry guys! Was busy over the holidays.

I have been drinking a lot more water, and I got a blood test done on the 29th and am still waiting to hear back. If I don't hear tomorrow I'll probably call.

Ari, I have been feeling fine! However mine weren't quite as high as yours. I have however been avoiding taking Tylenol, drinking, etc, until I hear what's going on. I'm not one to push my luck..

When I find out what's up, I will probably post an update.

If I was in your situation I would be working very closely with my doc and asking a lot of questions to get a good grasp of the docs plan of care in the setting of your most current labs; I would also not consume any alcohol. Not medical advice, just what I would do.

Still a little high last time (around 49). Just got it drawn again... if it's still high I am going to talk with my dr. about adjusting my meds. I'm guessing he will be ready to talk about that too.

Don't worry, no boozing for me ;)
