Is it ok to take VSL #3 and amoxicillin?

I had my wisdom teeth extracted earlier today and the oral surgeon prescribed me 500 mg of amoxicillin to be taken three times a day for a week… I take vsl #3 every day and I'm just getting out of a very minor flare.

I don't want to deal with bowel issues on top of mouth issues...does anyone know if there's an interaction? If so, which one should I skip taking?

If I'm not mistaken, there's no interaction but it might lower the effectiveness of the VSL, so leave a few hours gap if you can

Absolutely keep taking the vsl but take 2-3 hours after a dose of the antibiotic or the antibiotic will kill off all the good stuff in it.

I have diarrhea right now after about a day and a half on the amoxicillin. I was so sure this would happen and here I am.

What do I do? Keep taking this and ride it out? This is so stupid, I should have left the teeth in.

Unfortunately it's a terrible idea to terminate a course of antibiotics mid-way. That's how bugs become resistant. Keep taking the VSL, up the dose if you can, and look after yourself

Sometimes you can ride it out and return to you pre-antibiotic condition.

I guess it doesn't help that I haven't really eaten a solid food for 48+ hours. I'm not supposed to until tomorrow either.

Aaand another loose BM

I took rowasa last night, was able to retain for like 9-10 hours. I don't want the rest of my week to go like this. Any thoughts, anyone??

I have a bacterial infection which caused horrendous diaherea and vomitting over Xmas. But I decided to ride it out instead of take antibiotics this time. I have had a horrendous few days but it's almost gone now. I doubled my VSL dose too which I think sped up killing the infection. I don't see the point of antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.

Every doctor/pharmacist I've spoken with so far has suggested I continue with the antibiotics

I'll call my GI doctor tomorrow I guess. He is the only one I haven't had a chance to ask yet.

antibiotic really messed me up. just got off the phone with the oral surgeon who said to stop taking it. I made a point, even in my whacked out drugged up state of mind of telling him I thought this would happen and it did. why do doctors not listen until they're proven wrong?

GI doc agreed to stop taking the amoxicillin and told me to take more probiotics. now he's ordering a stool culture to test for c-diff. lovely!

I'm in a similar situation, infected tooth on xmas eve, started a course of Penicillin the next day, symptomatic with minor flare issues for a day and a half, then everything quieted. My GI said to finish the course of antibiotics, and I have been fine, maybe even better the last day or so....and if you have ever been on a course of Prednisone, do a search on the forums, your teeth become quite weak and prone to infection. Good luck.
