Test came back negative for flu

My DD has following symptoms for last 6 days.

1> Fever between 100.5 to 102
2> constant cough
3> Stuffy nose with blood when she blows her nose to a towel.
4> Heavy headache
5> Ear is hurting

She had an appt with her GI and they did some test to check for flu and for some other virus. The results came back today and nurse of gi today called and said it is not flu and all tests came negative and did not know what it was. Worried what it could be.

It's probably just a cold, but a lot of times the flu swabs come back negative even when you have influenza.

Does cold come with pretty heavy blood when you blow?

She's not on immunesupressants is she? If so, you should definitely take her to the doctor, those types of meds can allow opportunistic infections to take hold.

She is currently on pentasa and 25MG of Azathioprine. Her coughing,headache, dizziness, and blood while blowing her nose is pretty bad.

Blood is usually irrelevant with these things, unless it comes with coughing. "Blowing blood" is likely just a result of the fact that her nasal mucosa is inflamed and friable and any abrasive damage could cause bleeding.

I personally wouldn't mess around with a fever that hasn't gone down in days and a child on imuran. Even though 25mg is a very low dose, she is a small person... I got a very bad infection while on immune supressants. The risk is real. Please take her to the doctor and if she needs antibiotics, start them. Bowel inflammation is an inconvenience and it's miserable and life-altering but an infection could lead to death.
