Rhinoplasty and uc

One girl from the Polish uc forum has asked me to raise that question because she doesn't speak English. Ala (that's her name) is going to get a nose job in two weeks time and she's a bit scared. Her uc can be classified as mild, she's currently on mesalazine, but she has to remain off the meds ten days before the surgery. Her question is if anyone here has ever had a plastic surgery? If yes, how did you handle the problem of meds? And, what's probably most important is that she will have to take antibiotic for 3 days after the surgery. The doctor has told her that it can be an antibiotic of her choice and she doesn't know which one she should take, maybe ciprio? She'll greatly appreciate any advice from you :)

She shouldnt need to be off of mesalamine before surgery. There is nothing they will give her that will interact with it. Tell her surgeon to contact her GI. I could understand no meds the day of, and maybe the day before, but 10 days before is ridiculous.

I guess its possible, but the 5-aminosalicylic acid is a topical agent so very little gets into our bloodstream. I would ask the surgeon if 2-3 days is enough.

As for not eating after surgery, she should be fine, but she should be taking a strong probiotic during this time. Id imagine those would be allowed, but get her to check with her GI.
