On Remicade , Blood coming back:(

Hey everyone , its been a while since I've been on here and tbh it sucks to be back LOL!! So I've been on remicade for a little over a year(every 8 weeks,standard dosage) and it has been very effective at keeping me in remission , that is , until last week when some blood/mucous came back. The thing is , I'm unsure about what is actually going on because the blood/mucous is really the only the symptom that I'm dealing with. My BM's are nice and solid , i have no urgency and no real stomach pain. The blood that is present is mostly small streaks on solid stool , bright red on TP when i wipe(not consistent but mucous is) and have seen the darker raspberry type bloody constructs a few times(sorry for the imagery but i know you guys could handle it!!)......Anyways i have seen some improvement by drinking metamucil daily. Just wondering if you guys think I'm flaring? Could it be a hemorrhoid? Would an increase in Remicade (frequency/dosage) get me out of this? Is pred a possible necessity ? Maybe i need some rectal meds/cortifoam? What are your suggestions? Thanks for the help!!

Hi - I was on remicade for 6 months ish and had what I thought was negligible bleeding. I think I was so desperate for it to work ... Ended up with major bleed ... Which was news to me. I'd lost what felt like gallons before but noticed hardly anything this time. (The bowel absorption trick!). Anyway ended up having blood transfusions on day I should have been taking a transatlantic flight ... And colonoscopy which showed inflammation had not improved at all. And there was I after all these years thinking I knew it all about my body ... But it pulled a blinder this time.

So I guess I'm saying, if in doubt get it checked out. I hope it's nothing for you ... But if you need to ask then get medical reassurance. Just my thoughts.... Best wishes.

I agree about the rectals meds but I think a scope or sig scope wouldn't be a terrible idea just to get an idea of whether it is UC related or if it's something like a hemmie. On the positive side, you're on the basic dose, you could always increase the dose or frequency. You've got plenty of options.

Like Caitie, my son had a flare just under a year on remicade. Bright blood on TP, multiple BMs, urgency. Uceris didn't work, had a quick course of prednisone to bring the flare under control. I would suggest consulting your doc and getting on pred perhaps. Better to nip it bud, than wait, it only gets worst and doesn't usually fix itself, IMO.

Hey, so the weirdest thing happened in the last week. I got the flu and with it , my issue completely went away!! While i was sick i was aggressively trying to get better as soon as possible , so i was drinking lots of water(with lemon and lime) , making honey & ginger teas at least twice daily and taking tylenol cold and sinus. Now/for the past week, my BM's are completely nice and solid, theres no sign of blood at all and have absolutely no cramping or anything of the sort. This really makes me wonder how much this disease is mental. While dealing with my flu , my attention was shifted away from what was going on in the bathroom and i think that may have been the main contributing factor to my improvement. Needless to say I'm very relieved but at the same time , pretty confused about how this could have possibly happened. Anyways hope everyone is doing great!!
