I've noticed that a lot of drugs are initially studied for Crohn's and then later for UC. Is that because there are more people with Crohn's than UC?
Interesting, OM.
As for the questions why CD first, I think it's because CD is generally thought to be a much more serious disease. It can affect the entire digestive tract, not just the colon, and since it can cause inflammation in all layers, a lot more complications can arise, like strictures and abscesses. I know a lot of people reject the idea that a colectomy is a cure for UC, but in a strict medical sense, it (genearally) is. People with CD don't have this option.
