This is my first one. Is it normal to feel nausea and stomach ache during a colonoscopy prep? Also, I read online - prep could cause kidney failure, heart failure, or seizures?!!?!??!

What prep are you using? There's dozens of formulations... some are pretty harsh. Make sure you stay hydrated.

Some people are sensitive or even allergic to some ingredients in those preps, you should call either the manufacturer and/or a health care professional and describe your symptoms just to be on the safe side...especially if it's your first time using the prep you have.

i had to do 4 dulcolax tables at 1pm (bisacodyl) and then 238 grams of miralax (polyethylene glycol) in 64 ounces of fluid... is this a harsh one?

I actually thought it was normal to feel nauseous, with an aching stomach whilst doing a prep.

That's a pretty mild prep. When I prep, sometimes I get nausea but not really stomach pain.

Good..try not to be too alarmed, I vomited a few times, which apparently is normal, its the worst part of the whole experience..your colonoscopy will be a breeze after this. Make sure you slap on plenty of Vaseline or you will end up with a sore bottom.

I've felt slight nausea from drinking preps but that's because of the taste of them and because of the time limit put on getting them down. I've never actually thrown up though I was close each time I had to use Phospho Fleet (I don't think GI's have their patients use that kind anymore though, thank goodness).
Being put to sleep is the best part IMO, it's what I think about
while drinking the gross preps to help me get them down lol! I think the choice is yours if you want to be put to sleep or not though that may vary from GI to GI as well.
Best of luck with your scope! And prep!

Hi,don't nervous I didn't sleep at my colonoscopy. It was scary first I ask the nurse:is it hurt during colonoscopy? She said I don''t lie to you it really hurts..but it didn't hurt I didn't feel anything..it much better than endoscopy.

I thought I was dying during my first prep. I did OsmoPrep, the pills that eventually got a boxed warning for causing major kidney problems. I was so nauseous and wished for death. I was really sick though. I'm really disappointed virtual colonoscopies haven't become mainstream yet. I'm due for another one and am dreading it. it will be my first scope while in remission though so I'm crossing my fingers for a perfect colonoscopy report.

Thanks so much for your support everyone. I got through it. Had my endoscopy and colonoscopy which showed: 2 polyps that are being biopsied, gastritis, reflux, and some hemmoroids. Not sure on Colitis yet. Anyone familiar with Gastritis? My follow up is on the 30th.

I threw up during my first prep. The second one (in January) was a little better. I did have a headache the entire day while fasting.

I had gastritis and so does my husband as well as GERD. We control it thru a PPI such as Omerprazole (Prilosec).
