I've had proctitis for almost 15 years now. I have an hour commute to work daily. I have to stop practically every day to use the bathroom. I end up alternating stores... e.g. starbucks, mcdonalds, wawas, burger kings, but I think after years of doing this, the employees are starting to notice. My work colleagues probably are thinking why I use the bathroom so much. I don't discuss with any of them my issues, but I'm sure they know and wonder. How do you deal with these sort of issues?

I hear ya, at work just use different bathrooms. As far as on the way there, you just have to not care, they are strangers. Who cares!

Or buy a coffee then use the can!

Some people here use Imodium maybe that will help u make it to work?

Who cares what anyone thinks? I am surprised it still bothers you.

Almost all of my colleagues know my story. It makes my life much easier.

I wouldn't worry about what others think about you using restrooms, just be glad you avoided an accident. Uc can create a lot of anxiety and depression issues.

How come you haven't gotten a grip on your proctitis? You're lucky it's still only in the rectum. UC tends to spread throughout the colon if left untreated. Do you use supposetories or enemas? It can help you immensely. If you add a signature with your medications it would help us to know what you've done and what you're currently on.

I have been on Lialda and Rowasa enemas. Granted, I haven't been 100% taking my meds all the time, and I'm not as good as I could be with my diet. I am trying to take on a new attitude after all of these years and be better about both meds and diet. I am vegetarian (no meat/fish, eggs are okay) since forever, but would love ideas on diets that work. I know its a personal thing and I know certain foods that, for me, make my symptoms worse. other than that i'm at a loss for diet. i just ordered vsl#3 and am going to add that slowly to see how that works. again, i know it will be useless if i don't take my meds and control diet, but i am trying to get better about all of that.

do those of you who use vsl 3 just order it from the website? so expensive. obviously worth it if it controls the disease.

i have been a silent observer of this forum since my diagnosis. i would say that everyone on this forum is quite amazing and supportive. kudos to you all.

about the VSL#3 I would check around to local pharmacies and only order from the web as a last resort. These little bugs(probiotics) want to be cold while sitting around, when you order from the web you have no idea how it was stored/handled and it could be warm, which will kill off the bugs quicker. The last thing you really want to do with VSL#3 is pay all that money only to get it at half strength when it finally reaches you.

As far as the rest of the post, I agree with others, after 15 years you should have the I don't care attitude when it comes to other peoples and there meaningless opinion of you. I used to care when I first got diagnosed but as I aged the less I cared, at this point everybody I work with knows just enough about my condition to understand why sometimes I need to use the restroom more than others. Sure they have there own opinions, but that is all they are, if anybody takes issue I just say until you walk a mile in my shoes.

I wouldn't worry about what the Starbucks and McDonald's etc workers think. I'm sure they've seen much worse, and I'm certain you aren't their only frequent flyer, lol! If it really bothers you then you could try and find a more discrete public bathroom where people are always coming and going. Large office buildings, doctors buildings etc, cafeterias, etc. like iPoop said though, be great fun you're not having accidents!

Pooping diseases suck. cry

I used to work at Tim Hortons in high school and we had people come in just to use the bathroom sometimes and we couldn't care less. Most of the time we didn't even notice them. As long as you don't smear your poop all over the bathroom (believe me, we had that on more than one occasion) they don't care.

i suppose all of you are right. i should just get over it. this is life. at least i am (we are) alive. i just got my shipment of vsl3 and am going to start it. i got the capsules. i'm thinking that i'll start with 1 /day and ramp up rather than jump in at the full recommended dose of 4 capsules. anyways, thanks guys and gals. this forum is full of good hearted people.

You can order VSL directly from the VSL website, which is what I do.

I agree with mcfarl. I work at a campground and if you don't make a mess, I'll love you.

I agree with Andrina as well. Enema at night, supp in the morning maybe? I have also had some success with turmeric. It didn't put me in remission but it does give that extra little boost.
