Only under the supervision of a GI and only sparingly. It increases your risk of toxic megacolon so make sure you know the signs and symptoms

Did the doc give you the lomotil?
Are you still on the Pentasa enemas?
Are you not on any oral 5ASA?
If you have diarrhea, have you had stool samples done?...it could be something else going on.

They gave it to me when the affects of prep for endoscopy still hadn't worn off after colonoscopy

I've had what must be a flare. Lots of gas, cramps and I've noticed slight blood once.. It's starting to ease on it's on without increasing meds. I'm not sure what set it off. I can't put my finger on anything except eating a lot of sugar again. Something upset my digestion.

nightly enemas? if not, you should increase them till back to normal.
Slow simmering can give you a new set of standards as being acceptable.
Starting to ease....deal with it properly and use the nightly for at least 2 weeks...taper to 2x weekly.
My take on it....based on experience.
But if you're bothered by cramping, try the dicyclomine.

Quincy I just re read what you said.. I'm only on 1g enema at night so I was going to increase to morning and night, even tho it's easing without it

I've used it and never had a problem but I was going many times a day. I think bentyl helped more though.

Don't think it will help the loose stool. May just slow things up. I usually only use it when vacationing, trips, long car rides etc. For those it doesn't work for you should try upping the dose. Seems to be like everything else for UC. Regular dose never does anything.

I agree with Dr A. I only use 1 pill if iam going out on a shopping trip or lunch .
It does the job, so I don't have any accidents

I agree with Sherbear, Bentyl helped me much more than lomotil ever did
