New to the forum here. I went to the GI today for an appt. after a colonoscopy last week. He prescribed Apriso and Canasa which I was taking before the procedure, read: nothing changed. Still having bad pain, diarrhea, and rectal bleeding which is what I went in to see him for initially. He told me I have the "mildest proctitis" he has ever seen and that I need to talk to a psychiatrist about
my abdominal pain.
This is not the first GI I have seen but he is by far the nastiest.
Has anyone had an experience like this?
Also, have any of you seen a GI doc at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix? If so, what was your experience? Good, bad, indifferent?
Thanks.

Run as fast as you can from him. I'm not familiar with Phoenix at all, but could tell you all about
doctors in Chicago! Seriously though...leave him in the dust.

Do you have the actual results on paper from your scope and were biopsies taken? If you don't have the results, get them. Was that the first scope you have had? Just curious since you said this wasn't your first GI.
Proctitis even in a mild form can give horrendous symptoms. Everyone is different in regards to this. You might do better on Rowasa enemas than you are doing on the suppositories. I would ask for them and you could do the enema at night and the canasa in the am. Or ask for a steriod based enema or suppository which really may give you a push in the right direction.

I'd be looking for a new GI ASAP, I had a jerk GI like that, my very first one and he didn't last long even though I didn't know what the hell was really going on with my body cuz I was in shock for a long time that I had IBD not knowing what it was really all about
, I gave that GI the boot fairly quickly....you just gotta know when it's time to move on...I'm on GI#4 still, that says something considering how long I've had IBD.

You went to that GI for help, he did nothing to help you. You need a better GI. (I try to leave emotions out of some decisions but being treated badly by a good doctor would also make me look for a new GI).

we can only know the GI through your report and your perceptions. it sounds indifferent and nasyy. (we can't know what was there and what was perception), but when IBD does not seem to be responsible for symptoms, IBS and/or psychological factors may be an issue. worth considering. Still there must be something or the meds prescript
ions would not be renewed.
But regardless, it does seem like you have no comfort and trust with this GI, so finding another is a good idea.

Get your results from this guy and then find another doctor.

If you're not responding then insist on stronger medications: steroid oral, enema, or suppository. You know what you need, know your symptoms best, and should be insistent that things need to be better.
You can try getting a second opinion but it might take a month or more to get another gastroenterologist appointment. I'd try to work more with your current doctor while you look for alternates.
