I had a colonoscopy 7 years ago and they told me I have UC. They put me on Lialda two pills a day. I haven't ever really felt any big effects, except some white spots on stools and urgency to go sometimes. When I was first diagnosed I had been having back pain for months and nothing fixed it. The back pain went away and I thought I was fine. about a month ago the back pain came back and I'm having bowel movements more frequently, looser than what I usually have. Is this normal for UC or am I just having a bad flare up? I started taking a probiotic pill everyday and hope that will help. Thanks for any input, UC New Guy

It sounds like you are getting a flare. Can you ask your doctor for some enemas? I don't think Lialda is enough. Ask if you can take 4 Lialda.

You're flaring, contact your gastroenterologist. 4 lialda a day is better, ask about that. You should be on either suppository (e.g., canasa) or enemas (rowasa). Treating from both ends is the best method.

Get on it friend. Each flare gets harder to treat. So happy you had lots of pain free times, and I wish you more. Call your GI- above advice is v good. He/ she might want to scope you...prob a good idea, along with blood work, or alternatively, a fecal calproctectin test.

Yes, this may be a flare and I agree that 4 Lialda a day would be better. Definitely ask.
