First Flare after diagnosis...Help!

I was diagnosed last year in April. I was doing well on ASACOL. I am having pins and needles since Jan. 2015. Dr. thought may be side effect of ASACOL. about a month ago he put me on Azathioprine. I am not doing well on it. Now flaring for last few days. Pins and needles did not go away either. All blood work, X-Rays, MRI and Neuro work came normal and now on Gabapandin for that issue. Any advice? Any supplements/herbs can I try to keep major the flare at bay? Started using Cort enema for a week now. Do I call GI and go back to ASACOL or wait?

Well like you may already know. The Aza may take upwards of 3 months for you to start feeling it might be helping you. I don't see a probiotic in your signature, you make want to give that a try, it helps many.

If you feel the azathioprine is causing additional symptoms, I would suggest you consider splitting up the tablets and taking part of the dose in the morning and the rest in the evening. As Cavalier says, it takes 2-3 monhts to take effect, so won't help right now. In addition to probiotics, tumeric can help.

Should I call Dr to get back on ASACOL or just wait it out? Can you please recommend me Probiotic easy on my tummy? I do eat home-made yogurt.

What are pins and needles? Are you referring to pain? VSL#3 is the most widely used probiotic for UC. What country are you in? I would question the fish oil and protein powder, unless you are 100% sure that they help you. Some fish oils can make UC worse, even though it is generally known as an anti-inflammatory. Many have taken protein concoctions which made them worse or even brought on UC in the first place.

I had all Neuro work done few months ago. It feels like rain drop on skin (numbness), razor blade scraping like feeling. Yes, painful. Going for Neuromuscular doctor appointment next month. I stopped Fish Oils for a month and it did not go away. I stopped protein powder too. I am not using that currently. I am in US, close to Boston. I have never taken Probiotics. Does not VSL#3 need prescription?

I strongly believe small nerve issue that I am having is related to UC (bugs in digestive tract). I had no such issue before UC diagnosis. It can be unrelated one thing after other too. Who knows. Neuro or GI have no idea what it is.

Also eyelid inflammation showed up last year right after UC. Eye doctor recommended fish oils.

Vsl can be purchased with a prescription in high dose, or over the counter without a prescription in lower dosages. Most stores and pharmacies have to special order it. Available online... Getting your insurance company to cover vsl ds #3 (prescription variety) can be difficult...
