Tips for Reducing Steroid Side Effects?

My doctor has prescribed Entocort as a last ditch resort to avoid Imuran. It works pretty well when it comes to resolving my GI symptoms except urgency, but the side effects are even worse than what I experienced on prednisone. In addition to the moon face and increased appetite that I always get from steroids, I now have acne, severe fatigue and joint pain, and constant headaches. I tried taking 3 mg instead of the prescribed 6 mg, but that dose doesn't help the UC symptoms. I put a call into my doctor's office a few days ago, but it's not unusual for it to be a week or longer before he gets back to me.
Does anyone have any tips to help with the Entocort side effects?

I have left-side UC, good colonoscopies but terrible symptoms. Also rapid gastric emptying and a rare genetic disease. Have lost half of my bladder and a kidney so far.
Currently taking: Entocort, Colazol, Canasa, B12 shots, Zofran and Klonopin as needed.
Have tried: All of the 5-ASAs (none work), Canasa and hydrocortisone suppositories, Flagyl and Cipro, Prednisone (somewhat effective until I drop below 20 mg), and Uceris (didn't work at all).
I have a genetic disease that predisposes me to cancer, which is why my doctor is nervous about prescribing Imuran.

Cut out ALL salt and most sugar. Drink TONS of water. Work out everyday. It really works. I lost weight on an 8 week stint of prednisone (IV and oral).

Firstly, if your md takes a week to get back to you that is really bad and even if s/he is an amazing doc that is not good and you need to say something. Chances are it's the office staff who isn't delivering your message promptly. Secondly, I Was on prednisone and it made me really uncomfortable with all the side effects. My doc switched me to medrol and it's no where near as bad as the prednisone tho I still have sweats insomnia and a big appetite and moon face it's better than the prednisone
