I'm 99% sure I have C diff...AGAIN. Since vancomycin and flagyl have not knocked this down, They said they will try Difficid this time (once labs are in tomorrow). Has anyone ever been on this? Does it have similar side effects as the others?

Also considering another FMT. I'm thinking that the optimal time for that would be after the C diff is weakened by the antibiotic. Last time it didn't take, probably because I had the transplant, IV flagyl/vanco and Remicade all within 2 days.

Speaking of Remicade, do you think being immunosuppressed is what's contributing to the more frequent C diff diagnoses?

Edited to add: I wonder if Difficid would work as a pulsed treatment like I've heard of being done with Vancomycin...l

I had C. diff once that was treated successfully with vancomycin; about 10 weeks later symptoms started up again and vancomycin didn't work so I took Dificid. Knock wood but I've been totally fine since then (now over a year). I don't remember experiencing side effects of any kind with vancomycin or Dificid.

I now take Florastor twice per day and Culturelle once per day -- no way of knowing if they do anything, but I'd rather spend the money than find out by getting C. diff again.

Try not to get too down. Dificid worked well for me even when vanco didn't. I asked my GI about FMT at the time (a GI at her hospital does them for recurrent C. diff) and she said even after failing vanco she didn't think it was worth considering FMT yet, but would if the Dificid didn't work or if I had another recurrence.

It is annoying and uncomfortable to get c diff

This would be my 6th time, but two of them were undocumented by lab tests. Now that I know what it's like, I am sure I had it prior to an official diagnosis. As a matter of fact, the first time was 3 DAYS after starting topical clindamycin for acne.

I also believe my daughter had it as a baby a couple of times. She was on constant antibiotics for ear infections. It still makes me shudder to remember the amount of pain that poor little baby was in from antibiotic-associated diarrhea. She didn't bleed from it, but it burned her butt like she's been sat down in a fire :'(

I Wonder if having acne itself might be a risk factor for IBD or if it is just the treatments.

Not sure on that, Gary. Thing is...my acne was not that bad! I was at the dermatologist for something completely different, and she gave me the prescription "just in case you want to take care of that".

I still think that you would have gotten UC that was a trigger
But you could have had a different trigger instead
I'm also doing all the what ifs
But than I realized I will go crazy

Yep. There are hundreds of ifs, if not thousands and nobody will ever be able to nail it down any time soon.

C diff has been confirmed. They put me on vancomycin again because they want to "save" the Diffcid for something major. I have an appointment Monday where we will discuss pulsed antibiotic treatment, among other things.

What is the best time to take probiotics with this?

Taking probiotics now is futile as the vanko will kill it
But after you end it maybe taking them is a good idea
Did your doctor think anything of a fmt

Yes, they did mention FMT. I had one before while also undergoing vanco/flagyl treatment, and it probably killed the transplant. Seems like FMT might be better when I'm feeling better. Does vanco really decimate the entire microbiome, or is it targeted to C diff? At a minimum, I should be able to take S boullardii.
