Hope you get your prescription. That really sucks all the trouble you have had. There's a lot of good reasons to live in the rural areas of any country but, unfortunately, medical care often takes a hit, no matter what country you are in. Anytime you have decreased options it makes things more difficult. It would be nice to have the option to go to the "big city" if they would let you.

Hmmm it's very odd that your GI wants another scope so quickly! I suspect this situation has more to do with you being in a rural area than it does with the Canadian health care system. I live in Canada, but in a major city. My gi will phone in prescriptions for me, easily. My family doctor also asks me how I like me gi and says if it's not working out he will gladly refer me to another whenever I want.

If you're in desperate need of the meds go to a walkin clinic and play innocent. Tell them you've been diagnosed with UC, can't see your GI for three weeks and need a prescription for ____ . Like you said, not like your asking for narcotics, I doubt a gp would think twice about writing you a three week script. When you see your GI for scope just let him know you've been taking it so he can factor that in the results of your scope.

In another recent thread you posted about having some inflammation in your descending colon per latest c-scope. Therefore, the gastro should have put you on oral mesalamine right away-- because the enemas & suppositories do not treat higher than the sigmoid colon. It seems that you are dealing with practitioners who don't know enough about IBD to really help you achieve remission. Somehow you need to make them aware of this basic information about where Salofalk rectal med only works, which is why you also need oral med. Maybe they are confusing mesalamine with steroids & think it also has a systemic effect, but it does not. I'm sorry to read that the staff abuses you by denying access to med that you should be able to get quickly. Maybe it would help if you tell them that you know somebody in Toronto who has left-sided UC & takes both oral & rectal Salofalk to control it. / Old Hat (34 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Well Shell always gave me RX for oral Salofalk before. But it seemed she has changed her ways ?? I don't know the hell why ??

Actually, this morning I will go by me Dr. Office and talk directly with the secretary and ask for my RX. At less she will give the message to my Dr. I should have done that earlier in the week. But then again the secretary that is there today is more than helpful. She is such a nice girl. My GP has always written me the RX I needed. It is her stupid nurse who does not want to pass the message along.

I also have an appointment with my GP in 4 weeks to follow up with my hormones replacement therapy and I sure will tell her about the nurse and clarify things with her. Because my GP has always help me quickly as soon as she new I had UC problem while waiting to she the GI.

Thanks all for your advice and reading me blowing my steam out.

Well finally resolved. When the GI receptionist told the GI my scope could not be scheduled before 3 weeks, she asked her to give me an appointment next week even though the schedule is full. So I will get my scope next Tuesday. I still don't get why she wants me to absolutely a scope before giving me a RX. But in any way it is fine with me 5 more days is now reasonable in my point of view but a month was not.

I will finally be able to discuss with her why she is now so reluctant about oral meds as before it was always standards in all my previous flares. Back then my flares would improve tremendously within 2 to 3 weeks.

I have been complaining my last flare lasted one year and 1/2, until I realized that I never got oral meds for that one.

I'm so glad this forum gave me the courage to stand up for my self.

I'm glad you got them to move everything forward. Congratulations. It really shouldn't have been that hard, but regardless of the country and town you reside, it can happen. I've had it happen here to me as well...
