I'm 32 weeks pregnant and just called to set up Cord Blood Banking with our 2nd child. (We banked cord blood only back in 2011 with my daughter.) The sales person also told me that it's possible to bank cord tissue. He said that the stem cells are different there (mesenchymal) and they actually store a 4-8" segment of cord. He told me that in the US there is currently no treatments today but that there are 200 clinical trials worldwide being studies for using these types of stem cells. The diseases he listed as possibilities with the cord tissue cells are heart disease, MS, Lupus, Crohn's, sports injuries, rheumatoid arthritis, & Parkinson's.
What does the forum think? Is it worth the extra cost?
Banking Cord Blood only is $1350 for the 1st year with a $130/yr storage cost.
Banking BOTH Cord Blood and Tissue is $2250 for the 1st year and $260/year for the storage cost.
