I am in remission and have had no symptoms at all for a couple months now. Yesterday afternoon I saw some bright red fresh blood on the toilet paper. No pain, no symptoms at all, formed bm's 1-2x/day. I used a mirror to try to see where the blood is coming from but can't see anything though the area looks red. It's definitely coming from outside because I see blood even when I don't have a bm. I am guessing it's either a small hemmie or I scratched it somehow. I smeared some neosporin around the area this AM, but there are still spots of blood.

I had hoped that it wouldn't be bleeding this AM, but still seeing bright red blood though it's less than it was yesterday afternoon. (It's definitely coming from the anal area and not my vagina)

Question -- will a hemmie that burst or a scratch heal on their own or do I need to see a dr?

Personally, I would try to go to the doctor to find out what it is. If it's a hemorrhoid, the problem is that if it's internal, they won't be able to see it either. You really need some kind of scope to 100% know what's going on. Have you tried steroid suppositories or prep H?

I've never had a doctor look at my hemmies when they were bleeding. It eventually resolved on its own. You could have a fissure but those are VERY painful from what I understand.

I personally would be doing what you are doing and maybe add in some sitz baths to help the healing of whatever it may be. If you develop some major pain or a fever I would see your GI asap.

NSSG -- I used an anucort suppository last night. I didn't have any preparation H or I probably would have used that too. I did put neosporin on it so hopefully whatever it is won't get infected. I didn't want to run to the dr for this if this is something that could heal on it's own. If it was an internal hemmie I wouldn't see blood externally without having a BM would I?

Sherbear Nice to know that hemmies can heal on their own. It doesn't hurt so I doubt it's a fissure. I'm inclined to give it a few days to see what happens. If it gets worse or I develop any other symptoms I'll call the dr. I'm leaning towards it being a hemmie because yesterday when I first saw it there was a lot of blood on the paper (when the hemmie burst?). At first I thought it was from my vagina (which would have been very weird since I went through menopause a couple years ago), but further investigation narrowed the source to around the anus. It's smaller amounts of blood today, but still bright red so it's fresh blood.

Just a faint trace this AM so whatever caused it is nearly healed thankfully!
