Hi all, I was just browsing the web and came across this forum and decided to join up.
I am 20 y/o male and have had ulcerative colitis since February (about 6 months). It came about when I had the mumps but I'm not sure are they related? I was initially told it was just proctitis and was given proctofoam which did help stop the bleeding. I then had a colonoscopy which found that it was not just proctitis as there was inflammation further into the bowel. I was taking Enemas rectally twice a day which helped too but were literally a pain in the hole. I then switched to pentasa sachets which I take twice a day instead.
All was going well. I went on a Specific Carb Diet which is like a paleo diet. I had tests to see was I Celiac but I'm not. I then went gluten free which helped with any bloating, pain, wind and helped me from proper stool. I was/am going to the toilet about 5/6 times a day but this is not unusual for me as I always have been all throughout my teens.
For the first month or two sport was difficult but has since been normal. In the last month I've started going to the gym properly. I started taking creatine (1 teaspoon per day) and whey protein (2.5 scoops each day I go to the gym, about 5 days per week). For the last week there has been blood in my stool for the first time in months (excluding the day after drinking alcohol about a month ago).
I am just wondering have other people had problems with creatine and protein? From reading other posts it's clear that whey protein isolate is a better option to regular whey.
•What about creatine? Could that cause a flare?
•Any advice with alcohol? Any time I've drank since diagnosis there has been blood. Spirits vs beer? Cider vs larger?
•could this blood be caused by the switch from the rectally taken Enemas to the orally taken pentasa sachets? I doubt it as that change was about 5 weeks ago, with blood only this past week.
I'm now eating mostly gluten free but still have the occasional pizza etc. take pro-biotics once a day, eat fennell seeds, coconut oil. I see a lot of people taking about being in remission. I would love to get there but do I have to be on a paleo diet to get those results?
Apologies for the length of this!
