So I've been in the ER for four days now, I came in on wed and on Thursday they started me on IV steroids, every eight hours I get a dose so it's been three solid days of the steroid so far. A couple changes I've noticed is that prior to coming in I had a resting heart rate of about 100-110 which has been like that for over a month now since my flare, pretty much as soon as getting the first steroid dose my heart rate dropped down to 65-75bpm, which to me alone is a huge miracle. But why and how did the steroid help this? Also I've been dealing with major throat pain for about the same amount of time that has also become completely nonexistent along with rectal pain that is now gone as well. As far as the colitis itself, i still have constipation with lots of blood so that has yet to ease up. They've had me on a liquid diet since I've been here so my intestines can heal easier and that is pretty much where I'm at right now. Any opinions or experiences of their own with IV steroids? I'm worried about the side effects from the steroids especially since I'm expecting them to come on faster and more severe seeing how these are IV steroids. Is this accurate?
