I have always been told to avoid NSAID use since I was diagnosed with UC. I just had a c-section 5 days ago. I had a hard time in the hospital getting the staff to remember that I was not supposed to take Ibuprofen or NSAIDs. Upon discharge, they prescribed Tylenol with Codeine #3 which I thought was fine. But now that I read all the standard discharge notes, this med says to tell my health care provider before taking this medicine if you have Crohn's, IBD, or UC.
I'm not sure I trust that my care providers actually remember my UC diagnosis when prescribing meds. In the hospital, I was daily seen by the OB on duty that day and not *my* doctor. I was constantly reminding everyone that I can't take Ibuprofen, Motrin, etc.
Today, I wrote my doctor's office about the pain that is still there and she said I should take ibuprofen every 8 hours. What?! I wrote her back and said, "I CAN NOT take NSAIDs", and I haven't gotten the response yet.
So, how do you deal with the pain after a surgery when you can't take NSAIDs? Does it mean I just need to tolerate the extra pain and fight through it?
