Chewing gum can start up the digestive tract too (peristalisis) but like I said, eating/chewing or not, for me I have found it makes no difference, even with just my IBS I go randomly at any time, for a while since seeing the dietitian I stopped being interrupted so to speak, for the most part, then it recently started up again, as I'm sitting eating either my breakfast, lunch, supper or snacks I get "interrupted" by having to go and have a BM, and even when I'm not eating it happens...especially between 5-7 pm my gut has me going to the bathroom...most often I have one at 5 pm daily no matter what I'm doing.
