Some old school relief - Tincture of Opium to slow down bowel movements

Has anyone's GI ever prescribed a tincture of opium to reduce bowel movements? I stress....I am talking about a tincture. NOT opium alone. My sister's GI recently prescribed it for her IBS.

I can't take imodium. I tried it once and it caused terrible cramps. So I tried the tincture. Just 4 drops....and wow! I only had 3 bowel movements today and one of them actually looked slightly formed and wasn't covered with blood. I have not had only 3 bowel movements since February. And no side effects. No high. Just a break from the bathroom.

I know the dangers - toxic mega colon. But I have never had constipation in my life. I just want to sleep. Could this be a possible occasional imodium replacement? Or am I going to end up like some tragic laudanum sipping Victorian?

That is the reason many GIs will not prescribe opiates for their patients.
It is a mask for the symptoms and can let it get out of hand. As soon as you stop it may go back to how it was or even worse

There is some research that indicates mm may be beneficial for UC
However there are many risks associated with it
research shows that it can cause long term damage and lower ones IQ
The benefits must be discussed with your Doc to see if they outweigh any risks.

I applied for mmj, I smoke mj already and have since I developed a recto-vaginal fistula, there is research saying it may help with inflammation. I'm hoping the medical grade will be as good at least as the current that I'm smoking...will find out once approval goes through...if not then I'll go back to the current...I find huge relief from it and that's why I'm hoping the medical grade will be just as effective.

Prednisone can cause memory issues and a whole lot more permanent negative side effects and it does nothing for inflammation and compared to mj, well there is no comparison really, prednisone sucks compared to mj.

I'm just glad more and more research is being done on it and so far it rates better than any man-made RX that come with much worse and permanent side effects...look at how Fentalyn is killing people (it's all over my local news how people are dying even from just one pill) mj doesn't kill, research has proven that over and over.

To each their own of course....ElpisUnbreakable, glad you found the tincture of opium helpful and hope you can get your own with no issues as well.

Yah prednisone is really really bad
I don't think I will ever go on it again
It was terrible
But it saved my colon so I'm still thankful it
Taking pred is like making a deal with the devil
If you have blurred vision from the pred than see an eye doctor ASAP
It could be glaucoma, they can just test the pressure in your eyes as a pretty good indicator
One teensy weensy tiny benefit of glaucoma is that the eye drops make your lashes grow longer and darker ( that's what is in latisse and that is how it was discovered)

I am on Entyvio but was still having accidents .
In the house , in the car and worst of all in a store
I told my GI about this last week , she wrote me a script for Questran it's a drug that is given for diarrhea
It comes in a packet and I mix it with applesauce
After a few days my diarrhea is gone , no accidents either
So far so good

pb4- I hate the vapor taste too! I thought it was just me. I need to get myself a proper pipe and give it another try. I feel like I can't get anything out of the vaporizer either and then it comes out all at once and burns the hell out of my throat.

Charlie3 - I will ask my GI about Questran. I have never heard of it? Thanks for the tip. The worst is when you don't even make it to the bathroom in your own house. I get so aggravated when that happens.

ks1905- Yes it tastes god awful. My sister had to get it filled at a local pharmacy and they were hesitant to fill it too. They said that they had never filled such a prescription in all their years of operating. Kind of funny when you remember that opium was pretty much in everything a century ago.

It's weird that my GI track seems to respond to opiates so well because I know it does not slow things down for many people. Tramadol (an opiod?) also slows down my bowel movements but I definitely feel a high off of it. What I liked about the tincture is that it did not get me all loopy.

Yeah, it's gross eh! I've got a pipe that looks like a lipstick tube, case and all lol, even when you take both ends of the case off, the part you use to inhale is shaped like a lipstick tube lol the other end of it holds the mj in a little bowl that I have to put a screen in so it doesn't clog the hole where the smoke goes through when you inhale it...it's my favorite one, it's metal...I have another metal/glass combo one that looks just like a tobacco pipe, it's ok too and the screen doesn't get clogged up with the gunky oil near as fast as the lipstick tube one but it's longer so it travels a bit further which is why the lipstick tube pipe is my favorite even though I go through screens more with it. My son bought me a water bong, a smaller "cheech" one for xamas a couple yrs ago when I basically first started smoking it, it's ok too but needs more cleaning and more often but you might like a water bong like that better cuz it's smoother so if you're not a cigarette smoker that's used to inhaling dry then maybe try a water bong, you can get various sizes and styles of them too.
