I just can't get to remission. I'm doing fairly well. No blood that I can see but still 4_5 bmp a day. Ab discomfort but not to bad if I eat a paleo diet. I'm thinking about adding rectal MEDS to help. I have left side UC. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is YES use all rectal meds available to you: Rowasa (available generic) enemas, Canasa suppositories, Vitamin E suppositories (a non-RX). I have left-sided UC and no pill ever helped the rectal area and when I finally used them regularly my symptoms (bleeding, urgency) improved tremendously.

I also used diet to help reduce symptoms and continue to do so. Since bleeding stopped I don't use rectal meds unless needed.

Since you are already doing some diet mod. consider keeping notes on symptoms (one side) and food intake (other side). It may take a few months to nail down food vs. symptoms because some do not cause immediate problems but over time it will become clearer.

Yes yes yes add them! Rowasa enemas will reach farther for the left sided inflammation.

Definitely use them - and now is the time before things get worse. Get it under control and you will save yourself a lot of trouble later. I also concur with imagardener's advice on tracking food/symptoms.

I have left side UC too, I had several bowel movements a day for a few months, blood mucus etc, doc gave me pentasa 2mg, and I watched what I ate, 3 light meals no more a day, it improved but was still going 4-5 times a day. Doc prescribed me pentasa suppositories and almost saw an improvement right away. Down to 2 movements now, morning and evening. Definitely give suppositories a go.

Why in the world didn't your doctor give them to you up front? Took me about 2 days on generic rowasa to see significant results then another month or so to slowly and continuously get better. Back to 95% or so now. Hoping for the same or better for you. Good luck. If you use the enemas make sure you use an extra lubricant especially with the generic ones.

I've only ever had success with Cortifoam to treat my crohn's proctitis, the longer you let it go the longer it will likely take to get under control...so the sooner you get on rectal meds the better....good luck!

Try canasa if it hasnt already been mentioned! I could not function without it! ;-)
