Hi katie, I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm going to echo pb4 I also had cramping and hot flashes. Ironically, I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and severe uc all in the same year.
My endo caused cramping in lower left area which mimics left side colitis. A vaginal ultrasound showed ovarian cysts. I also had monthly nausea and diarrhea that coincided with my ovulation ( other have it during menstruation) that was not uc related. It was always short lived for only a few hours and never had blood or mucous. It had a lot to do with hormone fluctuation.
Where is your pain?
I had a full hysterectomy and they removed a lot of scar tissue. My cramping ended.
Now I'm in a uc flare and the only cramping I have is right at the time of urgency.
Find an obgyn that specializes in endometriosis and also understands the connection between ibs/ibd and uc. It took me 2-3 drs but I found one!
My other advice is make sure it isn't gas pain. I suffered for years with upper belly pain and found when I eliminated red pepper (paprika, chili, bell, etc) the pain went away. I'm not saying yours is the same but many times we have weird trigger foods that we would never imagine. Red peppers happen to be mine.
Best of luck and hang in there. A year ago I was at wits end and had 11 months of no pain, no flares and a happy, normal life. Granted it was short lived but I'm starting the clock over and hoping next time remission sticks.
