I recently found out I'm mesalamine intolerant. Though my symptoms improved after quitting Colazol, I seem to be stuck in a state of mild flare (I have left-sided UC, but inflammation is only proctitis right now). The problem is that even though the inflammation is pretty mild compared to what it was, it's creating the most irritating symptoms: frequency and urgency, particularly in the morning.
My GI doesn't want me to take any type of maintenance meds. I can't take mesalamine, I'm allergic to sulfa, and I have a pre-existing genetic condition that predisposes me to cancer that makes all of my doctors nervous about immunomodulators. That pretty much leaves me with treating proctitis with nothing or biologics.
I've tried the diets. They don't work for me beyond common sense stuff like staying away from spicy food or avoiding overeating.
Does anyone know of any rectal medication that doesn't contain mesalamine or steroids? I'm already doing hydrocortisone suppositories.
