Flare-up or food poisoning? Help

Over the last two days I've been pretty ill with my BM gradually changing from solid, to semi-solid, to pure water. I generally don't get D when I have a flare-up, at least not a huge amount if ever it does occur.

Anyway, mainly today, I've had to take the day off of work and have had around 10 BMs, beginning at around 12AM and up until this point. I do not have any blood or mucus, so I am borderline considering food poisoning? Any opinions would be great as I am dying here.

Sounds like a bug of some sort, be it a virus or bacterial, I can't say. Do you have a fever at all? I also don't get d with a flare, just softer stools, mucus and blood. If you aren't bleeding and don't see any mucus I would lean towards a bug. Hope you feel better soon. In my experience, food poisoning works its way through your system in 4-12 hours.

Yeah, I have the cramps and occasionally nausea but I don't generally get much D, if any. That is essentially why I am worried. It seems to have calmed down a little, and I know that this generally would not happen in a flare.

If you don't get better in a couple of days, you should be tested for c-diff.

same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. lots of diarrhea, cramping, and nausea. turned out to be a stomach bacteria so i just had to wait it out. it passed after 8 days but it sucked the entire time. i plan on taking activated charcoal if it happens again.

Food poisoning is different than ingesting virus or bacteria. Best to call it a gastro bug or invader.
If you suspect actual food poisoning, it should be reported.

you could call the doc to get a stool sample test kit to check for sure.

Are you on uc meds?

I do suggest good probiotics and fibre supplements to help sweep out whatever it might be and to rebalance your gut bacteria.

Usually with food poisoning you are extremely sick. Diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain so if you're not that bad it's probably not food poisoning. But it could be an intestinal bug. Best to get check by your doctor.
