Benadryl ingredients (generic) does it for me plus no caffeinated tea or coffee or chocolate after 1 pm. Yes it does stay in my system that long. Reading a boring book is also helpful, meaning non-fiction not a whodunit which stimulates my mind and def. not Stephen King anything lol. No late TV (no news for sure) unless it's boring too.
There is also herb tea to try such as Peppermint or Sleepytime or many others with herbs that calm the body/mind. Melatonin did not agree with my gut but my spouse sometimes takes it.
Do you think it's a mental or physical issue keeping you awake? Before remission my gut was causing lack of sleep including waking up middle of the night.
edit to add: my spouse (nonUC) does not like Benadryl ingredients because it makes him sluggish the next morning so it does not agree with everyone. I never have this side-effect.
