Going for my first double dose of Remicade

I have my double dose infusion this afternoon. Wish me luck :)

I am a little nervous at the higher dosage but hopefully it finally kicks this stubborn flare.

Don't worry about the higher dose. It's no big deal.
What are you being premeditated with?
I just read that premedication with corticosteroids helps the remicade last longer and prevent antibodies. I found that very interesting.

Today will be my first time pre medicated since I'm finally done breastfeeding and not pregnant yay!

Benadryl and solumedrol with a Tylenol chaser. That's really interesting on steroids helping.

Did you have any issues or reactions from a double dose?

Good luck, it really shouldn't be a big deal. I had a double dose without premedication and it was pretty much the same as regular, I think it took a bit longer. You will do great and I bet it's going to kick that flare to the curb!

I think my double dose took about the same amount of time. Not sure why but they kept it at about 2-2.5 hours each time.

It helped me get much better and I hope it does the same for you.
The solu medrol doesn't have as bad side effects as pred so don't worry about it. Also it's just one dose and you prob won't get that much. Maybe 20 mg or something.
When they push the Benadryl ask the nurse to do it over 4 minutes. I know that seems like a very long time but if Benadryl is pushed fast it can have terrible side effects. I'm speaking from a traumatic experience. But the other times it was pushed over several minutes it was no issue. In fac it was great cuz I got an awesome nap.

Just had my second double dose of Remicade yesterday. Haven't noticed any negative effects with the new dosage.
Have gone without any Benadryl for my last 3 infusions. The Benadryl just made me feel awful for the rest of the day and never slept well the night following my infusion.
Yesterday my nurse also suggested that I take 650mg of Tylenol 30 minutes before arriving at my infusion appointment. That way they could get started on the Remicade right away not having to wait 30 minutes for the Tylenol enter my system.

I'd try claritin or another over the counter nondrowsy antihistamine instead of benadryl.

I take over the counter Tylenol before my infusion, as well.

Premedications are a good idea, and help reduce the odds of infusion reactions.

I made it thru! The Benadryl knocked me out...HARD. I literally fell asleep mid sentence I think. The nurse pushed it right in. I felt really loopy. I'll ask for longer injection next time or get the Claritin!!

I hope this dose the trick. How long do you guys think before I'll know if it's at least working in the right direction?

I have never been pre medicated for my Remicade and as far as I can tell, neither are any of the other people tat are at the infusion clinic while I am there. At my clinic you get your first 5 infusions over 2 hours, the next 5 over an hour and after that you get it over half an hour.

the remicade guide says to give it over at least two hours
I know people who have dont it quicker but it increases the chances for reactions
