Best price for Rowasa?

Hey guys,

I tried searching the board for this, but I couldn't seem to find anything that wasn't years out of date. I was just wondering if you guys know the best place to get Rowasa or its generic, assuming no insurance. I might have to switch to a high deductible insurance plan, and if that's the case I need to find a way to get Rowasa for less. In my area it looks like generic Rowasa goes for $500 for a 4 week supply. Anyone know of a better source? Online? Canada?

I don't know where you can find it at the best price, but express scripts prices out medication for you on their website and they discount if you get a 90 day supply vs a 30 day.
I know the generic cortenemas cost $350 a month without my insurance.

I found the receipt for a 28 day supply of generic rowasa for $439.99 from rite aid pharmacy, labeled meslamine rectal suspension kit in December 2014. My insurance paid all but $10.00 (copay).

I'd call your local pharmacies and ask their price, you know the medication and dosage, and that's all they need to price it for you. Technically, you should be given you high deductible plan's negotiated rate for the rowasa medication, from the first dollar you spend out of pocket. Each insurance company may negotiate/allow a different rate.

Good luck, see if the cheaper premium for the high deductible plan plus your out of pocket cost for medications is still a good deal. I find having a better policy to be of a better value. But the math varies for us all.

Yeah that's where I'm scratching my head right now. If the rx is $500 per month, then it would pay to have a higher premium with better drug coverage. However, if there's some online pharmacy out there I'm not aware of, or some assistance program, then I might be able to get away with a low premium AND lower rx prices.

Are you taking an oral meslamine pill? Lialda is nearly a thousand a month ($900-something).

Often people with high deductible plans or no insurance order their medications from Canada. It's been asked a number of times before. Here's some posts on it:

I believe you need to fax/email the prescription to Canada. You don't have to tell your own doctor where you're getting the medicine from. Just need a paper prescription.

The other thing to consider is how often do you see your doctor and what does that cost ($140-225)? Are you going to need any diagnostic tests (colonoscopy $1500+, sigmoidoscopy $400+, blood tests $75-200-ish) are you anemic and might need iron infusions, need hospitalization due to a flare if uc etc. It depends on your uc case history, disease severity, etc. If your disease is mild and well mannered then it might be less of a concern for you than it is for some of us.

Thank you for the links. No Lialda for me, just rowasa. Looks like Universal is the best at $163 for a month's supply. So that's about $1950 for a year and just for medication. If I read the available plans right and crunched the numbers right, then for only a couple hundred dollars more for the year I can have a good silver plan!
