The blood won't stop

I was diagnosed with colitis about a year ago. My doctor could not decide what the inflammation was from in the colonoscopy and called it just colitis. Unlike must, I suffer from constipation...I was put on lialda, 2 tablets a day and I had a follow up colonoscopy and he said it was all clear and he stopped my medicine. about two months later it all started again. Well for the last 5 months the bleeding has returned. Fresh, bright red blood, it's so much it soaks the toilet paper and toilet with just red. I also don't even have stools, they are just floating circles with mucus. I have to be careful passing gas because sometimes mucous comes out. I have been completely exhausted lately too. I can sleep about 10 hours and still be exhausted and weak. I'm falling asleep in my classes. I made an appointment with my doctor awhile ago and my appointment is this wednesday. My doctor upped my dosage after calling him to 4 lialda a day and it has made my mucous worse. Now after suffering from constipation, it's almost like it's hard to pass stools, but when I do, it is floating and loose. Does anyone have similar symptoms? It's so hard to see so much blood and be tired all the time...I'm just looking for some support and advice on maybe foods to avoid or something. Any meds out there that could help with my blood better than lialda? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks soo much!!

It is possible that you are describing tenesmus and you may think you are constipated but in actuality you are not but the urgency is there and only small BMs pass, before I was diagnosed I had that and
I had the same with with floating stools, try eliminating greasy and insoluble fiber for a bit and see if that helps. it may not and it may be a signal of malabsorbtion and or very fast transit time
but seeing your GI and figuring out a plan is a must

get your stools tested for pathogens

Rectal meds definitely. I agree with Dikid, this might be a case where you think tenesmus is constipation. I recently realized this is a common issue and I can totally understand why. I am surprised I never concluded I was constipated over the years, especially in the beginning with those types of symptoms. It feels difficult to empty and you can get bloated... After mesalamine, immune suppressants are the next step. In your case, I don't think you're at a point where you should go to that extent. I would try rectal meds and a different oral med if you find that the Lialda isn't working great for you. I also think it would be good to try to get a better idea of exactly what you've got going on. if it's colitis, you should be able to find some answers and possibly get rid of it with antibiotics. I would request stool tests and a follow up scope at some point. colitis is not Ulcerative Colitis. UC is chronic. Colitis is curable. What did the pathology say?

I am experiencing something very similar. I am taking 4 Apriso once a day.... Thought I was in a ful remission because I've been having one formed BM a day... All of a sudden, I've started getting bright red blood with nothing else. I can't say I have full-on constipation, but definitely not the D that I have always had before. I've been wondering if I have inflammation only in the lower colon.... Sometimes I have to strain.

I went to the dr today and was prescribed a compound cream to use topically by the nurse practioner because she says it could be from irritation from the BMs... If that doesn't work, back in for a colonoscopy. Im due for one in the spring anyway.
