Need suggestions...What put you in remission?

Just curious what medicine/supplements everyone has found to them in remission. I'm currently on Colozol and Rowasa but it's not working for me anymore so I'd like to explore my options.

It was Azathioprine for me.

One month of Uceris, 6MP (which I am still taking), 4 Lialda (down to 2 now)

FMT put us in remission for a while and now the symptoms are back again.

For me it's been Isatis Cooling- Chinese herb recommended by my acupuncturist. Stopped bleeding within a day or two! Been in remission since July- hoping it keeps sticking.

Thank you for your replies! I am really interested in finding some natural ways to find relief in addition to my maintence medications. I definitely would like to switch from Colozol to something else. I have had mild ulcerative proctitis for the last 20 years. Pregnancy put me into remission for 7 years but a surgery - the pain meds and antibiotics - sent me into a huge flare that will not go away. I appreciate your advice!

Elpisunbreakable- I haven't had any side effects from it. I had a lot of heat in my body as well, and I was terrified to try anything new because everything seemed to make my flare this summer worse. I failed prednisone and my doctor made an appointment with me to talk about biologics. That scared me worse and so I started taking the Isatis. My acupuncturist said if if was going to work for me I would know quickly and that was exactly what happened! It may not work for everyone but I am so glad I tried it. It's a miracle drug for me.

That's an interesting point about Isatis being related to aspirin. I tolerate mesalamines fine but something about the isatis really helps.

I love cabbage but can't have it raw- I sure wish I could but I would have to sleep in a different room from my hubby.:) I wish I understood more about Chinese herbs- it's all so interesting and so helpful!

Diet mod. did the most for me plus probiotic VSL#3 and mesalamine enemas. A few supplements helped such as oil of oregano, clay water, homemade green juices from collards and carrots, I only use them when needed. Supplements have never been dramatically helpful and many were negative (nopal water for example which helped others). But I can say the same for oral mesalamine and balsalazide, never much help at all.

Currently in remission I take 3 gm 95% turmeric capsules daily plus Cardioviva probiotic and Citrucel fiber pill. Diet mod. is still a major benefit, more foods tolerated now but gluten/most grains are still out along with heavy fiber foods which my gut still objects to. Potatoes and healthy oils (coconut, olive, butter) are healing food to my gut, good thing I love them. And homemade chicken broth kept me going through the worst of times.

Krayer, you can see from all the posts how individual uc really is, there's no single treatment that works universally for everyone. Uc treatment takes a lot of trial-and-error, it can take years to find an individual's solution. You have lots of ideas to try suggested above, good luck!
