Mesalamine intolerance - Anyone do okay with Canasa, but not with oral meds?

I'm definitely intolerant when it comes to oral mesalamines. I've tried a bunch: Asacol, Apriso, Lialda, and Colazol. They all cause full flare symptoms for me. My new GI has suggested I try Canasa because I'm not quite in full remission yet and my worst symptom is urgency. She says we can do hydrocortisone suppositories if that doesn't work, but she doesn't like prescribing those long-term because it can lead to side effects like fungal infections, etc...

I'm certainly willing to give it a go, but has anyone had an luck with mesalamine suppositories, but not with oral meds? And if I'm intolerant of these, how will I know if I'm still running to the bathroom 6-8 times per day with urgency?

I agree with quincy that trying them is the only way to find out. You will know if there is an issue with them. At least for me they don't make an extended stay in there.

I have issues with rectal mesalamines but not oral...go figure...must be another ingredient in them that doesn't agree with me. I have used steroid enemas and suppositories no problem. This last flare I was on/off the steroid enemas for 5 months. I am tapering them now. I use the suppositories as needed.

I have never heard that they can cause fungal infections. I'm on Remicade so I would think my GI would have mentioned something like that since I am more susceptible to infections.
