Hi,
Just like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy new year.
I have been doing really well since starting the dreaded pred. Two weeks at 40mg then reducing by 5mg every 7 days. I am down to 25mg (20mg tomorrow) and the only symptom I have now is 2/3 bms fist thing in the morning and sometimes one at night. When I remission my norm was usually two first thing in the morning but I use enemas as maintenance too so always thought most of this was expelling the enema.
I feel rubbish today but I am certain it is over indulgence on my part yesterday, well I am hoping it is.
Sat watching the last episode of Downton Abbey last night, thought I would have a small tipple of chocolate liquor that I had been given for Christmas. Well it was only a half litre bottle but I am sad to ssay it was emptied. So together with doritos and dip, chocolate, xmas dinner, homemade cheesecake and some wine this wasn't good.
Needless today I went 6 times this morning. Now I am sure it was what I ate and I have felt sick all day. Its got to be just what I ate right?
I am worried now that I am backtracking. What an idiot I am.
Need some reassurances.

Yep....if it only lasts today and tomorrow I'd say its what you ate. Lots of fat in that "meal' .
Don't do any tapering till this is finished...and plan your next year's meal a bit better..lol.
It is what it is. Keep us posted.
Hopefully you enjoyed while it was going in.

Oh yeah I would blame what you ate. I do that to myself too sometimes. Sometimes you just want to eat like a normal person.

Thanks.
There are not many foods that disagree with me. So far I can't eat oats, tuna and xmas pudding. Will have to add Chocolate liquer to that list too now
Quincy, did you mean don't taper the pred. I probably have enough to maybe take an extra day or two at 25mg but no more. I wouldn't be able to get more from the doctors as I wouldn't be following their instructions. I certainly won't taper the enemas and lialda for a couple of months or more yet.
Hope you all had a good Christmas.

If you're on a scheduled taper, then ignore the suggestion.
Are you taking any fibre supplements?
Hope you feel better tomorrow....

Yeah I'd say it was the food! I was naughty last night and ate all the cake,
cookies and fudge. I'm such a sugar addict haha anyway, within two hours, I was down for the count on the toilet from 11-1 am. It all came out and now I feel totally fine.
If it were me, I'd stay at 25 mg for a few more days just to see if your bowels go back to usual. I've never had problems getting more prednisone from my doctor for tapers. He hands it out like candy.
Also, I plan on starting Downton Abbey. I've heard it's a good show and I need a new show to binge watch.

Hi.
Much better today. Only been twice. Over indulgence it must have been. Need to be more carefully I think.
Quincy - I am not taking any fibre supplements but funnily enough have wondered whether I should. How would they help? Can they reduce the frequency? How do you take them?
Bacon Girl - just finished binge watching Dallas, 256 episodes in ll. Lost now I have nothing else to watch.

Dallas? that's a zoom to the past.
Do you have Netflix? and what kind of shows do you like?
I take the Metamucil or generic (with no other fillers, so have to read the ingredients) capsules only, with meals. I started with one capsule for a few days with breakfast and then added one to supper for a few days. I increased over time to 6 at breakfast and 7 at supper.
I don't like drinking the stuff in water, and I can take it with me when I eat out.
They help to bulk and soften the stool...to exercise the colon...to even out peristalsis..to help sweep out any bad beasties in there...to work as food for probiotics...etc.
Yes, sounds like the amount of fat you ate all together.
Eat in moderation is the best you can do. So you overindulge on occasion...at least you know the why. It takes a day or two to clear out.

HI
I don't have Netflix. My kids keep asking for it but I am a poor widow and need to watch my pennies lol. I love period drama and crime drama mainly.
Thanks for the fibre advice.

Remember, healing is anything but linear. There will be lots of ups and downs, often wildly different on a day-to-day basis. Hindsight is often 20/20, if only I hadn't X then it would've been a much, much better day. Sometimes that is the case, but often (i feel) we are drawing correlation and expecting causation where it doesn't exist.

Glad you are feeling better. Pred is evil, but it will forgive us for all the bad food we eat, just be more mindful as you begin tapering as it will begin to become less forgiving with the foods you eat (or so I've found out)! Nevertheless, the struggle of wanting to be normal especially on one of those days like Christmas is hard.
