So.... I was having a bad flare this past Nov/Dec. I had a fissure which prevented me from continuing rectal meds and cause me to flare up. I was put on prednisone on 40mg and reduced it 5mg every 5 days. about a month in I started remicade infusions. Everything seemed very normal. Going 1bm a day. Somedays 2-3. I went away on a cruise last week and had 2 days of drinking and are like crap the entire week (really bad). Yesterday for the first time in a month my bm came out soft, blood on the outside and this morning looked grainy this evening when I went it was more formed with blood on a little of the outside. Did I mess up or is the remicade not working or did I mess up by eating and drinking so much. I had 2 infusions already.

Seriously, I wish I could figure out this disease. I might have a good day and do the same thing I did on that day and then the next day it all changes. Please don't beat yourself up for drinking, I gave it up for 5 years, made no difference. I wish I could help you, sorry.

No, not the food or alcohol...seems you were still flaring, but healing. With formed stool, your inflammation sounds limited in the rectum.

Are you still on the Lialda?

Ask for or start the rectals again.

I agree that you should try to start the rectals again. If you are still having issues with the fissure, instead of the enemas you can ask for at least the steroid supps because they're softer but at least it's something.

But you are still healing so it's possible that the alcohol could've of stirred things up a bit because your still fragile in there. Alcohol in general is harsh on the gut.

You've only had 2 infusions so far, it can take most people 4-6 infusions to get them into full remission if you're at the correct dosing for your body, sometimes it takes some tweaking of the frequency and dosage.

You should be optimistic since Remicade is seeming to work for your UC, give it some time.

Thank you for the responses. I started doing rectal steroid suppositories. How long do those normally take to work? I noticed that when I go to the bathroom (12 hours later) the first thing that comes out to appear like little pellets. After then it comes on normal and formed. Is this normal?

When I am flaring if I drink alcohol it always makes things worse..more BMs, more blood, more mucus. When I am not flaring, I can drink as much as I want. I used to use suppositories and that is what my BMs looked like too. Kind of like clay. Totally normal. Hang in there!
